Roger Dubuis continues its quest for the Holy Grail

Since the launch of the first Knights of the Round Table watches in 2013, Roger Dubuis has continued to shape and perfect the aesthetics of the collection. For this new edition, the knights’ iconic quest for the Holy Grail has taken them to remote lands and perilous paths. Here, the heroes travel to a land of ice, above a deep lake of striking colour.

Once again, the sense of movement is spectacularly rendered, as the dial cracks to confront the knights with a new threat.

Right from the outer rim, Roger Dubuis has surrounded the entire scene with a crown of transparent ice-blue glass, crafted using the Murano method. It took six months of extensive research and testing to achieve this particular tone and endow this timepiece swith uch captivating brilliance.

The same ice-blue glass is used for the main disc, as well as for the blocks emerging from the lake. To achieve the sparkling effect of virgin snow, the blocks are coated in biscuit de Limoges porcelain, a very special technique appreciated for its finesse and resistance. It offers a contrasting matt finish making a stunning match with the shiny surfaces of the glass.

The ambitious creation of the dial requires the utmost patience. Each piece is individually assembled like a jigsaw puzzle and takes a month of perseverance to complete.

The 45mm case is made of Damascus titanium, a tribute to the ancestral art of metalwork. While the watch is indeed inspired by the legends of the Middle Ages, it is crafted using contemporary techniques and expertise.

It would be a real shame to create such detailed knights only to conceal them, which is why Roger Dubuis has placed a glass ring under the bezel, enabling the characters to be admired from every angle.

On the caseback, the blue oscillating weight stands out, inspired by the stained glass windows of medieval churches and castles. The inclined pyramid shapes are static and follow the triangular notches on the watch’s periphery. In the centre, the skeletonised oscilating weight beats steadily in a circular motion.

This watch is equipped with the automatic Monobalancier Calibre RD821 manufactured entirely in-house. Each of its 172 components has been hand-finished in compliance with Poinçon de Genève criteria.

The crown and crown guard are deliberately shaped like the hilt of a sword, to create the illusion that the blade is stuck inside the watch, like the sword in the rock that Arthur managed to pull out, signalling his destiny as king.

Combining comfort, colour and bold versatility, the watch strap is a dark blue. The quick-release system makes it possible to change straps and personalise the watch in a matter of seconds.

Almost as rare as the Grail itself, this timepiece is offered in a 28-piece limited edition.
