To mark the Chinese New Year under the sign of the dragon, the watch Maison is unveiling the Reverso Tribute Enamel “Dragon”. This new creation bears witness to the talent of the master enamellers and engravers working in the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares workshop. The back of the watch depicts this fabulous animal surrounded by golden clouds. Engraved on pink gold, the creature appears to emerge from its opaque black Grand Feu enamel base. The polished surfaces of its body and the fineness of its scales, traced in black rhodium, make a striking contrast with the sandy texture of the clouds.
Using the “modelled engraving” technique requiring the utmost dexterity and concentration, the craftsmen have succeeded in endowing their creation with greater volume and depth. The engraver does not begin his work on a blank metal surface, but instead directly on the Grand Feu enamel, which demands an extremely accurate touch in order to preserve the purity of the coating. It’s an operation that takes no less than 80 hours to complete.
Like the back of the case, the dial is also adorned with Grand Feu enamel. Set against a black background, the dial features applied facetted hour-markers, a railway-track minutes scale and dauphine hands. To obtain such a dense colour, between five and six layers of enamel had to be successively applied, each followed by a firing. This work requires absolute mastery of the techniques acquired by the specialists at the Manufacture, one of the few to have its own enamelling workshop.
