The first two stages of the touring exhibition of timepieces nominated for the 2023 edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) were met with enthusiasm by the public, watchmaking enthusiasts and professionals alike. No fewer than 84 watches were presented, offering a unique panorama of contemporary watchmaking. The timepieces were in the running for one of 20 awards, the most prestigious being the “Aiguille d’or” Grand Prix.
Held at the Londoner in Macau on 25 and 26 September, then at the Landmark in Hong Kong on 28 and 29 September, the travelling exhibition was organised in partnership with Tatler GMT and Wristcheck as part of Timeless Watch Week. “Tatler GMT is delighted to partner with The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) to celebrate the best of watchmaking. We are excited to bring the region’s most influential watch experts, collectors and enthusiasts together to connect and discover this year’s GPHG-nominated watches at Timeless events in Macau and Hong Kong” said Michel Lamunière, Chairman and CEO of Tatler Asia.
“We are delighted to accompany the launch of this new watch week in Macao and Hong Kong by presenting the 84 watches nominated for 2023, and to play our part in highlighting the art of watchmaking” said Carine Maillard, Director of the GPHG Foundation. The public, watchmaking enthusiasts and professionals alike turned out in force for the debates and events organised as part of this travelling exhibition.
After Macao and Hong Kong, the nominated watches were unveiled for the first time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 4 to 8 October 2023, in partnership with The Hour Glass. Finally, after a visit to New York, from 18 to 22 October, with Watches of Switzerland, these 84 exceptional timepieces, along with six clocks, will be exhibited at the Musée Rath in Geneva, from 25 October to 12 November, in partnership with the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (MAH). Alongside the GPHG-nominated timepieces, the MAH will be presenting an incursion into the roots of watchmaking, with the “Hand & Tool” exhibition.
The 23rd GPHG awards ceremony will be held on 9 November at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva. The winners will be determined by the 30-strong jury, which will meet behind closed doors a few days previously, as well as by a second vote by the Academy. The ceremony will be broadcast live on gphg.org.
After the event, the award-winning timepieces will be on show from 15 to 20 November as part of Dubai Watch Week, then at the Kunsthaus in Zurich (1 to 3 December) in partnership with Kaleido Private Bank.
