Closely linked to Tudor, the Manfuacture Kenissi – named after the ancient Greek word “kinesis”, meaning movement – is working at full speed within its new Neuchâtel premises.
Kenissi was born in 2016 in Geneva under the impetus of Tudor, which, keen to develop its own industrial capacity for the production of mechanical movements, launched an ambitious project. A team of experts was assembled by the watch brand in 2010 and a first in-house calibre was presented at Baselworld in 2015. The following year, Kenissi was set up with the aim of overseeing the development and production of Tudor calibres and, at the same time, offering this technical expertise to third-party brands. A first industrial partnership was formed with Breitling. In 2018, as it developed its activity, Kenissi sealed an industrial alliance with Chanel, supplying it with the calibre powering its new J12.
Today, Kenissi offers three lines of customisable high-performance self-winding movements – large, intermediate and small – that can incorporate numerous functions, including a calendar, power-reserve indicator and GMT. These high-performance and extremely robust calibres are entirely developed and manufactured in Switzerland.
Headed by Jean-Paul Girardin until the end of May 2023, the Manufacture is now under the leadership of Clemens Gisler, who worked for IWC Schaffhausen and Rolex before taking the reins of this Le Locle-based entity. Today, Kenissi supplies its movements to Tudor and Chanel, who are among the company’s shareholders, as well as to Breitling, Norqain, Fortis, Bell & Ross, TAG Heuer and Ultramarine. The list of clients is growing.
