Synergy for Sigatec and Mimotec

In the midst of a growth phase, the Acrotec Group’s two Valais-based companies are increasing their work surfaces thanks to Sigatec’s acquisition of a new industrial building in Sion.

Specialising in the production of silicon micromechanical components for the watchmaking, aviation and biomedical industries, Sigatec was founded in Sion in 2006 by Mimotec (Acrotec group) and Ulysse Nardin, the current shareholders. Since then, Sigatec has shared its industrial premises at 20 Route des Iles in Sion with Mimotec, a key player in the Swiss watch industry that was founded in 1998.

Both companies have experienced strong growth in recent years. In four years, Sigatec has almost quadrupled its workforce, from 15 to more than 50 employees. In addition, the assembly of silicon components produced by the company requires more space and additional machinery.

Sigatec has therefore acquired an industrial building located at 2 Chemin Grély, also within the same industrial zone of Sion called Les Iles. This approximately 100-metre relocation has enabled it to increase its surface area from 400 to 1,000sqm since the end of last year.

Well-known in the field of watchmaking, Mimotec is diversifying into the field of micro-gears wheels and test tips. It also needs to expand to keep pace with the over 50% growth of its activity. Finding new space was therefore imperative and the departure of Sigatec gives the company the opportunity to have an additional 1,800sqm.

This is a logical synergy for the two companies, which are now working on setting up a new joint clean room for the demanding processing of silicon microcomponents using UV-LIGA technology.
