For the fourth time, Hublot will be serving as official timekeeper of the FIFA World Cup.
In mid-October, the watch company launched the 22nd edition, which will take place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December, by presenting the Big Bang e. It also unveiled an advertising campaign featuring a unique style. The Nyon-based company will time all 64 matches, right up to the final at the Lusail Stadium in Doha. With more than one billion viewers, the World Cup is the most widely watched sports competition on the planet.
The Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is a Gen3 connected watch. With an even larger and improved high-definition screen, every moment of the game will be captured by the new designed dedicated football app.
From the countdown to the most anticipated moment of the tournament, the FIFA World Cup Final, Hublot will be at the heart of the action. Before the tournament starts, the Big Bang e will be in countdown mode, keeping track of the days until the opening match on November 20 between Qatar and Ecuador. Then, with 15 minutes to go before each match, the watch will deliver team line-ups and player profiles. As a game kicks off, the watch will automatically enter “match mode” and activate “timeline”, a feature created exclusively for this watch that will help fans capture the most memorable and most important moments in football.
At any point during a game, the wearer can replay these events by scrolling around the dial using the watch’s crown. After five seconds of inactivity, the watch automatically switches into “low consumption mode” to save battery.
In the metal, the Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is a captivating blend of fine watchmaking techniques and high-end electronics. The imposing, exquisitely engineered 44mm case in micro-blasted and polished black ceramic and black titanium carries clear echoes of Hublot’s mechanical watch icon, the Big Bang.
But in place of state-of-the-art watchmaking mechanics is a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor powered with the latest version of Wear OS by Google (Wear OS 3). A dedicated app tailor-made for the watch offers the wearer a seamless experience. The watch’s impressive hardware specs include an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a microphone speaker, GPS and heart-rate monitor. It also comes with a full suite of preloaded apps that enable wearers to stay connected and to track activity, health and more.
Issued in a 1,000-piece limited edition, the Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will also be highly personalisable, with dozens of dial options available through the accompanying smartphone app. The official version has a burgundy dial teamed with a black and burgundy lined rubber strap inspired by the flag colours of the State of Qatar. Fans will also be able to choose dial and strap designs in the colours of each of the 32 participating countries.
The 129 official referees will time the 64 matches with the new timepiece on their wrists.
In parallel with the launch of the Big Bang e, Hublot has unveiled an advertising campaign created in collaboration with 15 football icons and the same number of footballs uniquely designed by Lebanese stylist Mira Mikati. She has created a logo that is original, cheerful and colourful, in tune with the the “Hublot Loves Football” campaign, which radiates optimism. Her hand-painted drawings evoke a new, hopeful enthusiasm that conveys a spirit of unity.
In addition, Hublot brought Mira together with 15 ambassadors and friends of the brand to create 15 unique designs to represent the football of their dreams. Each is a one-off piece of art created to capture the themes of hope and universal respect, as well as the individual personalities of the football stars and their shared passion for this sport. Some are hand drawn and painted, others crocheted, representing the human element in football.
