Décovi celebrates its 75th anniversary

Claude and Cédric Chèvre

On 31 March, Décovi officially celebrated its 75th anniversary in Vicques, in a ceremony attended by the Acrotec Group’s CEO François Billig, Décovi co-CEOs Claude and Cédric Chèvre, as well as several local and cantonal officials.

In Vicques, the history of Décovi is intertwined with that of the Chèvre family. It was in 1947 than Denis Chèvre, then aged 23, decided to start turning parts by transforming a section of his father’s farm into a workshop with three cam-type bar turning machines. In 1985, Claude Chèvre, a young mechanical engineer, joined his father. Two years later, they set up the limited company named Décovi – a contracted version of décolletage (bar turning) and Vicques – whose work surface was tripled. It was in April 2000 that Décovi inaugurated its brand-new factory.

In 2008, Décovi made its first successful attempts at heavy metal machining, without imagining that ten years later, oscillating weights would represent the most important part of its turnover with approximately one million units produced each year. In 2009, the small family business was one of the first to join the Acrotec group. This move enabled the firm to expand its factory several times: in 2011 and in 2014 with 1,800 sqm dedicated to oscillating weights.

The Jura-based company currently has a 100-strong personnel and has just achieved a historic monthly turnover of over CHF3 Mio. The company’s growth will not stop there as the outlook for orders from major customers is definitely positive. So much so indeed that Décovi is examining the possibility of acquiring new facilities, new machines and new equipment in the short and medium term with a very clear desire to remain in the vanguard of innovation. The company also plans to increase its workforce by 25 employees within three years.
