Girard-Perregaux is celebrating its 230th anniversary, a milestone most brands are yet to reach. Needless to say, the Manufacture does not intend to let the event go unnoticed.
Indeed, this year will be punctuated with several highlights for the company. Firstly, Girard-Perregaux announces the launch of its e-commerce platform, featuring the new Laureato Absolute Wired offered as an online exclusive.
The story of the Laureato began in 1975. From the outset, this sports watch was always distinctive with its octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet. The styling combined straight edges and curved lines, while the case featured both polished and satin-brushed surfaces. Over the years, the popularity of the model has led Girard-Perregaux to create additional variants, but the design codes of the original Laureato continue to live on across its different iterations and its iconic status remains undiminished.
In 2019, Girard-Perregaux unveiled the Laureato Absolute. While inspired by the legacy of the iconic 1975 model, this reinterpretation nonetheless radiates a strong and resolutely masculine character. Today, the Maison from La Chaux-de-Fonds is writing a new chapter in this history by unveiling the Laureato Absolute “Wired”, a launch marking the start of the 230th anniversary festivities.
The new 44mm-diameter chronograph is housed in a Carbon Glass case with a matt, slightly textured finish. The layers within it create uneven strata and are randomly aligned, making each watch unique. The bezel is enriched with electric blue shades that accentuate its octagonal shape, an emblematic Girard-Perregaux feature. Carbon Glass is both strong and very light and the new Laureato Absolute Wired weighs just 94 grams.
Its dial features two-layered “sandwich” construction. The upper layer is attired in matt black and offers a subtle contrast with the lower layer in black gold, creating the impression that some of the dial’s details, such as the baton-type hour-markers, are recessed. This design approach cleverly plays with depth, enriching the overall appearance of the dial. The chronograph is endowed with three snailed registers which sit below the upper dial layer, while a minute track is presented on a flange encircling the dial, thereby aiding readability.
The Laureato Absolute Wired is endowed with a Manufacture movement, the self-winding Calibre GP03300-1058.
In order to optimise wearer comfort, the Laureato Absolute Wired is presented on a black rubber strap featuring a fabric effect motif and incorporating black stitching. The Laureato Absolute Wired is limited to 88 pieces.
