BCCMP and CMP under the same roof

The Central Precious Metals Control Office (BCCMP) and the Precious Metals Control Office (CMP) in Biel/Bienne have been combined in Brügg. Both organisational units are mainly active in the precious metals refining, watches and jewellery industries.

The BCCMP is the supervisory body for the registration and licensing of master hallmarks. The CMP in Biel/Bienne carries out official controls of precious metal articles at watch and jewellery manufacturers. Checks are carried out on manufacturers’ processes, compliance with the requirements concerning designations, title determinations and expert opinions on goods. The Brügg location is a good choice because most of the customers are located in the Biel/Bienne and Jura regions.

The establishment of 20 full-time qualified jobs in Brügg is an important contribution by the Federal Customs Administration (FCA) to the development of the region. The central element in the decision to move was the need for customers to access the site simply and securely. In Brügg, the laboratory services were combined on a single site. Further synergies will be exploited as research, development, technical support and controls will be carried out centrally. At the same time, the move to Brügg enabled AFD to improve the security standards of the Precious Metals Control in Biel/Bienne.
