Frédérique Constant opens a subsidiary in Biel/Bienne

Erich Fehr and Peter Stas

A few months after announcing the construction of a second building in Plan-les-Ouates, the Frederique Constant group inaugurated a subsidiary in Biel/Bienne on September 5th.

On this occasion, CEO Peter Stas was joined by the city’s mayor, Erich Fehr, as well as 15 journalists.

In keeping with its strategy of broadening the reach of affordable luxury, as well as developing Alpina’s growth, the group is thus continuing to consolidate its position on the market.

This year, major work on the second building of the Manufacture began and will run for two years. Upon completion, it will consist of four storeys and enable the expansion of the main workshops, resulting in a significant rise in annual production capacity – from 150,000 to 250,000 watches – as well as a corresponding staff increase.

In line with the Swiss investment strategy put in place by the group, the Biel/Bienne subsidiary will operate under the name Macher SA in the Champs-de-Boujean district. Formerly a distributor located in Granges-Paccot, this company became a full-fledged subsidiary of the group in January 2017 and employs seven people, a figure that should double within the next three to five years. Working in partnership with the Geneva-based firm, it now encompasses the sales, marketing, customer service and logistics departments. As for the premises, located in the industrial zone of the watchmaking capital, they belong to the Citizen group which has established its European headquarters there. By way of reminder, the Frederique Constant group was bought up by the Citizen group in May 2016.
