Reuge innovates with the Music Shower

Once again, Reuge places mechanical music at the heart of innovation. In collaboration with the start-up Hidacs, a spin-off of LEMA (Laboratory of Electromagnetism and Acoustics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne), it presents the Music Shower.

An object with an emotive design which invites users to bask in a private auditory experience thanks to a new and patented targeted sound diffusion technology.

Thirty-five kilos of technology in a volume of 0.22 cubic metres houses the largest mechanical musical movement ever designed by Reuge. 144 notes individually tuned by hand offer a musical repertoire bounded only by the imagination. The result: musical immersion of a new kind called the Music Shower, with a high-fidelity directional speaker capable of detecting the listener and immersing them in a cone of mechanical music, comfortably audible over an area of around four square metres. An innovation based on a sound-signal processing algorithm associated with a patented speaker system, the Music Shower symbolises the alliance between mechanical tradition and advanced audio technology. An object rendered sublime by its timeless mechanical notes.

By reinterpreting technology developed by the start-up Hidacs - the vertical diffusion of ultra-high quality sound - Reuge confirms that its time-honoured expertise in mechanical music will endure in the future. Developed as part of the Montreux Jazz Digital Project, “SounD Dots” technology now brings together tradition and innovation, mechanical gear-wheels and digital algorithms.

During Baselworld, the manufacture based in Sainte-Croix invited the public to take a refreshing musical break by visiting a visual and auditory introductory experience. Suspended from the ceiling, in white-lacquered enclosures enhanced by multi-coloured LED lighting, the mechanical musical boxes were activated by a motion sensor. They could also be remotely controlled by means of a keypad. In a highly original fashion, Reuge recounted its history in this new acoustic environment, where every Music Shower expressed emotion through its musicality.
