New exhibition on recent acquisitions

The new temporary exhibition at the International Museum of Horology (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds is dedicated to the institution’s growing collections.

Acquisitions in 2015 - around thirty - either donated or purchased with resources made available by the association of friends of the museum (amisMIH), are presented on the promontory of the museum.

MIH collections have been built up in various fields, in particular the world of clocks. For example, the list of acquisitions features a magnificent German clock with perpetual calendar, an imposing Parisian gilt bronze clock, and another timepiece in marble in the Napoleon III style.

In the field of pocket watches, MIH will now be able to illustrate the lively debate conducted in watchmaking circles concerning the automatic watch, thanks to the acquisition of one of the world’s five known automatic movements with rotor attributed to Hubert Sarton. A pocket watch from the workshops of Jaquet Droz, featuring a jumping seconds, completes the existing collection of automaton clocks. Also worthy of mention is the arrival of the automaton «Turk drinking coffee on a magic carpet», a piece by François Junod made in 2000
