Last November, guests blew out seventy candles marking the return to the country of the pilots of the 201 squadron of the Mexican Airborne Expeditionary Force.
On this occasion, Alpina was in attendance at Air Force Base 1 in Santa Lucia. Bringing together representatives of the Mexican Association of Second World War Veterans and a variety of local military personalities, this ceremony, presided over by Captain Manuel Reyna Garza, paid homage to the servicemen.
Nicknamed "Las Águilas Aztecas" (The Aztec Eagles), the military unit is renowned for its role in the Second World War. The Mexican Air Force honoured the 290 volunteer soldiers who set off for the front in 1945. Today aged between 90 and 94, survivors were presented with a model from the Startimer Pilot "Escuadrón 201" limited edition.
The watch was designed to commemorate this key date in the history of Mexico, and a plaque was created depicting an eagle holding in its claws the distinctive tricolour triangle that is the symbol of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force. The watch’s back features a P-47, the aircraft used during the fighting.
