The American group has announced an investment running into tens of millions of dollars for the construction of a new headquarters in the Erlenmatt industrial park, in Basel. The new eight-storey building, designed by the architects Steinmann & Schmid, will accommodate 350 people and provide a floor space of 2,500 square metres for showrooms, with approximately 200 square metres set aside for a boutique. All employees based in Basel, currently spread over three sites, will now be brought together under one roof. Fossil’s activities across Europe – brand management, merchandising, boutiques, management of the logistics chain, finance, human resources and IT – will be directed from Basel. Work is expected to begin in August of this year, with the move to the new building scheduled for the beginning of 2016.
Fossil started manufacturing Swiss made watches in 2002. It currently employs around 380 people in Switzerland at four sites and boutiques: Basel (European HQ), Biel (design, prototypes and assembly), Manno (mechanisms) and Glovelier (watch cases and components). The group has a 4,000 strong workforce in Europe and turns over more than one billion dollars.
