Last December, Hautlence joined forces with the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel (CDN). This partnership starts off with the new temporary exhibition «Walks with the Minotaur», showcasing the likes of Dürrenmatt, Goya, Picasso and Klee, which runs until 9 March. Artists from the 18th century to the present day, in particular Goya, Piranèse, Max von Moos, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, André Masson, Varlin, Daniel Spoerri, Wilfrid Moser and Richard Long are featured, with more than 150 works drawn from Swiss private collections, foundations and museums. The point of departure of the exhibition is a work by Friedrich Dürrenmatt entitled Minotaur, a prose poem with illustrations echoing the text. While drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, the writer reverses the original perspective by relating events from the Minotaur’s point of view.
Built by the world-renowned Ticino based architect Mario Botta, the CDN, which opened in the autumn of 2000 on a hill overlooking the city, presents a permanent exhibition devoted to the pictorial and literary work of the famous Swiss writer and painter Friedrich Dürrenmatt, as well as temporary exhibitions. The Centre is also the setting for the new Hautlence catalogue, produced with the help of photographer Denis Hayoun, and is likely to play host to the brand’s tenth anniversary celebrations later in the year.
Since first appearing on the scene the watch manufacturer has developed a fascination for codes, as indeed is the case with its name, which is an anagram of Neuchâtel, in homage to the cradle of watchmaking and its expertise. It is a city that was also dear to the writer and painter Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921-1990) who lived most of his life there. Considered to be one of the most influential European dramatic authors of his time, he was a free spirit, an «agitator of ideas».
