On 12 November, the Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres (COSC) opened a new office in premises previously occupied by Nivarox, in Saint-Imier. The new office proved necessary following the desire expressed by a number of watch manufacturers in the region to submit their movements for testing at an office close to their headquarters. This requirement entailed the closure of the Geneva office last June.
Directed by Andreas Wyss, the current office is home to sixteen employees, backed up by around 25 auxiliaries (students from various local colleges) who provide a service on Saturdays and Sundays, in view of the need to take measurements every day of the week.
Saint-Imier has been home to a COSC office in the past. Opened in 1883, it was forced to close as a result of the watch industry crisis at the end of the 1970s. The commune of Saint-Imier is delighted therefore to have the COSC back on home territory.
