Hans Ulrich Klingenberg, founder of Century, passed away on 8 August last at the age of 84. He established his own watchmaking company in 1966 and fulfilled his dream of creating a truly exceptional timepiece, uniting the eternal beauty of the Century sapphire with watchmaking of outstanding technical quality. After inventing the «Vacuum», an exclusive system enabling air to be extracted from the case, he developed what still remains one of the distinctive features of each of the brand’s watches: the Megalith. This extremely complex technique enables two sapphire disks to be permanently fused. An unprecedented alliance which wrote the first chapter in the history of the House.
Headed since 1993 by his son Philip W. A. Klingenberg, the independent business based in Nidau, pursues the founder’s fascination with time. This is reflected in the collections which are designed with the emphasis on light and exclusivity.
