Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix - Greubel Forsey Wins The Golden Hand

This year, the most coveted distinction of the Grand Prix d'horlogerie of Geneva was awarded to the Double Tourbillon 30° Historic Edition by Greubel Forsey of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

On 18 November, 1500 watch lovers celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Grand Prix d'horlogerie of Geneva (GPHG) in the Big Theatre in the City of Calvin.

On this occasion, Greubel Forsey was awarded the Golden Hand for its Double Tourbillon 30° Historic Edition, in a laid-back atmosphere, somewhere between the Moulin Rouge and the Crazy Horse. "This evening I feel honoured to receive the Golden Hand on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the GPHG. More than a reward, this a symbol for an independent young brand like ours created as recently as in 2004. I want to thank the persons who believed in, developed and supported this project, especially our own 65 staff members, the collectors, retailers and jury members”, Stephen Forsey commented. He also paid tribute to the Watchmaking Academy of Independent Creators which has contributed to the prestigious reputation of his brand and was rewarded on the same evening by the Special Jury Prize.

Influential personages from watchmaking circles and leading names in watch distribution came from all over the world and were invited to present statuettes to the winners in each category. Elena Ivanova, representing the House of Mercury, presented the Prize for the grand complication watch to François-Paul Journe for his Resonance Chronometer, while Abdul Hamied Sediqqqi handed the prize for the design & concept watch to Maximilian Büsser for his Horological Machine N°4 Thunderbolt. Michael Tay then went on stage to present the Prize for the Small Hand to TAG Heuer for the Carrera Calibre 1887; this particular prize goes to a watch with a retail price of less than 5,000 francs. John Simonian handed over the Prize for a Man’s Watch to Laurent Ferrier for his Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral.

The other prize-winning watches were Le Pont des amoureux (Lovers Bridge) by Van Cleef & Arpels (lady’s watch), the High Jewellery Owl Watch by Chopard (jewellery watch), the Spring Drive Spacewalk Commemorative Edition by Seiko (sport’s watch) and the Historique ultra-fine 1955 (1955 Ultra-slim Historical Watch) by Vacheron Constantin (Public prize). Finally, the Prize for the best watch designer went to Jean-François Mojon.
