At the beginning of October, Maurice Lacroix began installing a movement production unit in Montfaucon, not far from its workshops in Saignelégier. Called Manufacture des Franches-Montagnes SA, the unit will be equipped with the latest CNC technology. It will concentrate on the small-scale production of parts with very high added value, testifying to the firm’s intention to offer timepieces whose exclusive features extend to the finest detail. The company also points out that it wishes to maintain its close collaboration with outside suppliers, using in-house production to give it greater independence during periods of high demand and enhanced control over its luxury mechanical watch production process.
The creation of Manufacture des Franches-Montagnes represents the final stage of the development process conducted by Maurice Lacroix over the past five years. During this period, the company from Saignelégier has focused on the development of additional innovative functions and highly complex mechanical movements. Some of the first in-house calibres containing components manufactured in Montfaucon will be presented in 2007.
