Franco Cologni, President of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva and Director of Compagnie Financière Richemont, was awarded the Legion of Honour by the former President of the French Republic Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. The ceremony took place in Milan on 21st June 2006 at the General Consulate of France. This honour has been conferred to Franco Cologni in order to reward his action in favour of the cooperation between France and Italy and of the promotion of the French values all over the world, especially in Italy and Switzerland, not only in the economic field but above all in the field of arts and culture.
France had already conferred two precious distinctions on Franco Cologni: in 1990 he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite (Knight of the National Order of Merit) by the former President François Mitterrand, and in 1999 he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature). In 2002 he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro (Knight of Labour) by the former President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
