At the end of March, the Movado Group announced the signing of a long-term global licensing agreement with Lacoste with a view to designing, producing, commercialising and distributing a collection of watches for men and women. The agreement, the financial terms of which have not been disclosed, will enter into force on 1st January 2007.
Reflecting key attributes of the Lacoste brand, the collection will feature chic watches with a sporty character, both elegant and contemporary. With prices ranging from 195 to 595 dollars, it will be available in leading department stores, specialist stores, luxury jewellers and Lacoste stores around the world. The new collection will be launched next spring at Baselworld 2007.
The company Lacoste was founded in 1933 by René Lacoste, a tennis star of the 1920s and multiple winner of Grand Slam and Davis Cup tournaments. To survive the overpowering heat of American summers, he decided to produce the perfect tennis shirt that would revolutionise men’s sports clothing. From this iconic tennis shirt, the firm went on to develop a global range of clothing, footwear, perfumes, bags, glasses and fashion watches offering an elegant, sporty and contemporary style to men and women who prefer a sober look with which to express their lifestyle.
In 2005, 48 million articles representing a total turnover of 1.6 billion dollars were sold under the Lacoste brand in 110 countries, thanks to a network of 870 Lacoste stores, sport shops, specialist retailers and more than 2,000 corners.
