Following the extraordinary victory of the Swiss challenger Alinghi in March this year, winning the trophy for Europe for the first time since the creation of the America's Cup in 1851, Audemars Piguet has decided to take part again in this fabulous competition by renewing its association with Team Alinghi. The watch manufacturer based in Le Brassus will thus accompany the Defender of the America's Cup until 2007 in Valencia. "Audemars Piguet shares our passion for technology and for the America's Cup," declared Alinghi skipper Russell Coutts recently. "After our victory in the 2003 event, we are delighted and proud to be starting a new campaign together."
Founded in 1875 by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, Audemars Piguet is the oldest manufacturer of luxury watches to remain in the hands of its founding families. Today, 480 people work at its three production sites (Le Brassus, Le Locle and Geneva), while distribution subsidiaries in Germany, France, Switzerland and the United States provide jobs for 70 employees. In 2003, the firm recorded a consolidated turnover of 200 million francs and produced 18,200 watches. Accounting for 45% of sales, Asia is its leading market, followed by Europe (41%) and the Americas (14%).
