Omega - Partnership With Ellen MacArthur

Yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur joins Omega to promote its timepieces as she embarks upon her next exciting programme of sailing challenges.

Ellen has earned herself a reputation on both sides of the English Channel through her astonishing exploits in single-handed races, notably her second place in the 2000 Vendée Globe round-the-world solo race. Later this year, she will compete in the 2002 Route du Rhum her last solo race on board the famous blue and yellow monohull Kingfisher.

Omega is proud to become one of Ellen's partners as her sailing career takes on an exciting new direction. The yachtswoman signed a contract with the brand on a recent visit to the company's Head Office in Bienne, where she was given an introduction to the art of watchmaking and received a Seamaster Aqua Terra watch as a welcome gift. Ellen will promote the Seamaster collection on her forthcoming races and record attempts, the first challenge aboard her new Kingfisher catamaran being an attempt at the Jules Verne Trophy, the all-out round-the-world sailing record, scheduled for this winter.

Company president Stephen Urquhart welcomed this new partnership, referring to the pioneering spirit shown by Ellen MacArthur a spirit that also prevails throughout the Swiss watch brand worldwide: "It is a pleasure for us to welcome someone of Ellen's calibre on board. At such a young age, she already has so many impressive achievements under her belt and, like Omega, is a pioneer in her field".
