Oris is entering the fascinating world of motor sports. The manufacturer of high-mech watches based in Hölstein has signed a sponsorship deal with Formula 1 driver Allan McNish, a member of the new Toyota team. It is therefore strengthening its links with the sport which, like fine watches, combines dynamism, technical prowess and grand style.
Aged 32, Allan McNish is a very experienced driver who already boasts an impressive record. He began his career in 1981 in karting. Seven years later, thanks to his exceptional talents, he made the move to car racing. Following excellent results in British Formula Ford and Formula 3, he began competing at an international level in Formula 3000. At the beginning of the 1990s he became a Formula 1 test driver and quickly became noticed through his performances, particularly in the North American GT Championship, which he won three times. He also proved his endurance capabilities in dazzling style in the Le Mans 24 Hours after mounting the podium three times. It was no surprise therefore that Toyota selected him, along with Finn Mika Salo, to make his Formula 1 debut this year.
In deciding to join forces with Allan McNish, Oris has made an excellent choice. This very friendly top-class British driver has the makings of a true champion. Meanwhile, the presence of Oris in Formula 1 will allow the brand to strengthen its dynamic and innovative profile. After all, was it not Oris that gave new momentum to the sports watch when it launched its TT1 steel/rubber line in 2001? In the words of McNish: "On my wrist, my new Oris TT1 chronograph is really in its element!"
