On The Wrist Of Mike Horn: Panerai Luminor Arktos Amagnetic

From Siberia to the North Pole, then around the globe following the Arctic Circle: from February 2002 to the autumn of 2003, Mike Horn will be leading an expedition that is unique of its kind. Named Arktos, it will take him over a distance of 20,000 kilometres across Canada, Alaska, Siberia and Greenland.

Officine Panerai has decided to team up with this extraordinary adventure, during which it will be able to submit to the rigours of the frozen north its Lumi-nor Arktos Amagnetic watch, mainly with regard to temperatures, magnetic fields, water and knocks. After tests carried out in the brand's workshops and by the Official Swiss Chronometer Inspectorate (COSC), this timepiece will have to function for 12,240 hours in this very restricting environment that cannot be recreated in a laboratory.

The Panerai Luminor Arktos Amagnetic watch has many special features. Its case, manufactured from 316L steel, incorporates a special internal "sleeve" to protect from the effects of magnetic fields its exclusive OP III calibre with automatic winding, indicating hours, minutes, seconds and the date. Equip-ped with a unidirectional revolving bezel that indicates the four points of the compass, the wearer can determine his position according to the path of the stars. Thanks to its screwed back cover and a device protecting the crown, the Lumi-nor Arktos Amagnetic is waterproof to a depth of 300 metres. It also has a non-reflecting scratchproof watch-glass 3.5 millimetres thick. On the dial, the index and Arabic numerals are tritium coated.
