New President For Swiss Exhibitors In BASEL

At the meeting of 21 November last year, the Committee of Swiss Exhibitors at the Basel International Watch and Jewellery Exhibition, sitting for the first time for the statutory period 2001-2003, elected a new President in the person of Mr Hugues-Olivier Borès (Patek Philippe). Approved by a large majority, the latter replaces Mr Rolf Portmann, who masterfully directed the policy of Swiss exhibitors during the nineties (he in fact presided over the first meeting on 7 February 1990 in Geneva) and who was presented with a watch for his outstanding services.

The Committee also elected vice-presidents: Mr François Thiébaud (Tissot) for the watchmaking sector, and Mr Robert Hauser (UBOS) for jewellery. Mr Jean-François Meyer (FH) was re-elected to the post of Secretary, while Mr Claude Monney (Posalux PMM) and Mr Jean-Marie Schaller (Vimont) were appointed as auditors. The Committee also appointed its delegation to the international council: Mr Yves Beck (UBAH), Mr Eric Bertrand (Rolex), Mr Hugues-Olivier Borès, Mr Guillaume Brochard (Ebel-LVMH), Mr Robert Hauser, Mr Jean-François Meyer, Mr Michel Soldini (Bergeon) and Mr François Thiébaud.

Also at the above-mentioned meeting, which was held on the premises of FH in Biel, topics covering investments, pricing policy and the development of halls by Messe Basel gave rise to a wide-ranging debate. The accounts for the 2000 promotional programme were also accepted, as was the promotional programme for the 2001 event, presented by Mme Anne Vulcan of Darwel Communication, and the 2001 budget.
