Certina VDST special edition

By the end of the 1960s, Certina watches had already made a name for themselves around the world.

In 1969 they went on a special journey. In the course of the Tektite I underwater experiment, four scientists spent two months living immersed in research tanks. During this time they wore the DS-2 Super PH500M, brand new at the time, to which they awarded top marks at the end of their stay. In doing so they proved that the DS concept of Double Security, launched ten years previously, had rendered Certina watches reliable partners for all kinds of adventures.

Inspired by this experience, the DS Super PH500M special edition is making quite a splash with its retro style and bright orange dial. Numerous functional features, such as the antimagnetic Nivachron balance-spring and water-resistance to 500 metres, make it the ideal underwater companion. Closely associated with this model, the Association of German Scuba Divers (VDST) was totally won over by its qualities.

Founded in 1954, the VDST is one of the oldest and largest non-profit scuba diving organisations in the world with 100 diving schools and centres, 17 regional associations and a total of some 83,700 members. In partnership with the VDST, Certina has produced a limited series of the DS Super PH500M with a high-contrast orange dial, in response to an explicit request from the company’s experienced divers. This timepiece also features the VDST logo on the caseback. Future purchasers will be presented with an exclusive set of additional wristbands, namely a black standard length Nato version, as well as an extra-long version that can easily be slipped over a wetsuit.
