The Jura-based company Butech turns 20

A member of the Acrotec Group, Butech – a company specialising in precision wire drawing – is celebrating 20 years of existence and steady growth. Founded in 2005 in Tavannes and recently relocated to Glovelier, the firm has established itself as a leading partner in the field of very fine wire for watchmaking, medtech and high-precision applications.

The maison produces more than five million metres of wire per year, spread across more than 6,000 spools, with an impressive micro-drawing level of around 0.020mm in diameter – three times finer than a human hair – and up to 2.1mm for stainless steel or 1.5mm for Nivaflex. This micro-precision is essential for medical technologies that are becoming less invasive and smaller, while increasing their efficiency. Tolerances correspond to around half a micron (0.5µm) depending on the processes chosen.

On the eve of its 20th anniversary, Butech is announcing an upgrade to its range, which includes: straightening and cutting complex arbors and hands; wire-drawing increasingly complex shapes from the raw wire stage, with profiles or special shapes (profiles, laminates with non-circular cross-sections); handling raw materials further upstream including transformation, special dies, electroplating on request; improvement of precision standards: strict tolerances, controlled surface finish, enhanced quality control.

In celebrating its 20th anniversary, Butech is not merely celebrating its past. The Jura-based company is looking to the future. It intends to strengthen its research and methodological capabilities, optimise its production flows to limit material waste and anticipate the growing complexity requirements of the watchmaking and medtech markets. All this in keeping with the tradition of excellence that has earned the Acrotec Group its reputation both in Switzerland and abroad.
