Bulgari: an Octo Finissimo with Lee Ufan

Since the launch of the Octo Finissimo collection in 2014, Bulgari has continued to push boundaries not only in terms of movement construction, case architecture and the art of skeletonisation, but also in its choice of materials ranging from gold to platinum, steel, ceramic and even tungsten carbide. Over the years, the brand has also invited artists to interpret the iconic octagonal case of its ultra-thin watch.

This year, the Italian house has collaborated with South Korean painter, sculptor, poet and philosopher Lee Ufan, who lives in Japan. His art focuses on perception and presence, on the emotional resonance of the object rather than its representation.

The Octo Finissimo X Lee Ufan watch is the result of an exchange between the artist and Bulgari’s executive creative director Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani. The design is inspired by a theme dear to Lee Ufan: the contrast between a static, limited stone and the infinite reflections of a mirror.

The Octo Finissimo titanium case not only houses the mirror dial delicately accented with black hands, but also enhances it in a striking way. Also in titanium, the titanium has been given a unique finish, as it is hand-filed to create a mineral effect.

Produced in a 150-piece limited edition, the watch is powered by the Manufacture BVL 138 calibre with a micro-rotor only 2.23mm thick and a total 5.5mm thick.
