By introducing L’Epée 1839 Time Tales, a complex and contemporary reimagining of the traditional Swiss Cuckoo clock, the brand blends nostalgia with the Maison’s boundless creativity, signature playful ingenuity, as well as demonstrating its ability to develop complex mechanical marvels. Inspired by the whimsical magic of childhood cartoons, L’Epée 1839 breathes new life into this beloved heirloom.
With a total of 1,241 components, L’Epée 1839’s Time Tales brings time to life through its complex in-house mechanical movement. At its heart, Time Tales features three distinct movements, able to function independently or together, like a fine-tuned mechanical brain. The cuckoo pops out from its bird house, singing out the time in perfect synchrony with the strikework mechanism.
To mark the passage of each complete hour, its number is audibly signalled by a corresponding number of chimes; while half-hours are marked by a single strike. The music-box also makes its stage entrance, playing a dainty tune while an automaton animates the figurines in a playful choreography. This enchanted ballet can be performed on demand, continuously or in step with the clock strap.
A movement with an eight-day power reserve ensures the accurate display of hours and minutes by means of two matchstick-inspired hands ready to light up time and the entire cabinet resembling a firework rocket. A second subdial also serves to programme complete periods of silence.
Each movement is independently wound via its own lever, while a meticulously hand-decorated square key enables accurate and simple time-setting.
