In a world marked by growing uncertainty, Switzerland must anticipate, adapt and play its best cards to face up to geopolitical and economic challenges of rare complexity. The ninth edition of the Forum Horizon, organised by Le Temps, offers an opportunity to decipher the challenges of 2025 and explore ways of strengthening our country’s position on the international stage.
Serious geopolitical tensions are reshaping the global balance. What role can Switzerland play in this? Ignazio Cassis, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will share the Federal Council’s perspectives.
The rapprochement between Berne and Brussels will be addressed by Pierre-Yves Maillard (Swiss Trade Union Confederation), Nicolas Jutzet (Liberal Institute), Luciana Vaccaro (University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland) and Cristina Gaggini (economiesuisse), who will discuss this new era in bilateral relations between Switzerland and the European Union.
On the economic front, 2025 promises to be a difficult time for the Swiss watch industry, faced with the collapse of consumption in China after years of post-covid euphoria. Ilaria Resta (Audemars Piguet), Jean-Christophe Babin (Bulgari) and Georges Kern (Breitling) will share their vision of the challenges to be met and the strategies to be adopted for this key sector.
Finally, the return of nuclear power to the energy debate raises questions: is this a sustainable choice? Aude Pugin (Apco Technologies) will shed light on this crucial issue for tomorrow’s energy mix.
The Forum Horizon will be held on Thursday 30 January from 9am to 12.30pm at IMD Lausanne. Programme and registration: events.letemps.ch/horizon. Price: 390 francs (including breakfast, lectures, coffee break and closing cocktail). Special price for FH members: CHF 200 (to obtain the discount code, write to: florian.blanchard@fhs.swiss).
