When Louis Erard meets an insider with a passion for fine independent watchmaking, they don’t just talk, they create. The result is a new collection of Petite Seconde watches in three Art Deco-style colours.
Resulting from the sharing of cultures, views, desires and passions, these timepieces are housed in a 39mm steel case featuring a signature “LE” crown, the only distinctive sign of the watchmaking Maison. Everything else is new, built like a journey between two times. The result is a novel neo-deco style merging Art Deco with the contemporary zeitgeist.
A great deal of work has gone into these creations, from the selection of the font to its design. The numbers are displayed in a circular pattern, as if placed on a disc. The disc motif in turn becomes central, featuring a graphic two-dimensional design accentuating the two time-display areas: the large hours-minutes dial and the seconds subdial. The disc also takes on a three-dimensional character at the centre of the watch with a series of gadrooned concentric grooves catching the light and endowing the dial with a distinct sense of materiality.
The “Empire” baton-type hands pick up a universal heritage motif in the form of the Empire State Building, the Art Deco skyscraper regarded as the emblem of modernity. Here again, incredible attention has been devoted to each and every detail, floor by floor, from foundations to spire, as well as to the central openworking – thereby resulting in a small mobile skyline.
This creation comes in three variations: anthracite, salmon pink and brown. Three moods, three warmths, three contrasts. This timepiece is produced in a run of 78: three series of 59 plus a one-off model for The Horophile.
