A new chapter for Krayon

Founded in 2016 by Rémi Maillat, recognised as one of the most talented young watchmakers of his generation, Krayon has since been going from strength to strength. Barely two years later, in 2018, the Everywhere Horizon watch won the Innovation Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). Krayon is strengthening its team with the arrival of two decoration artisans and three watchmakers, gearing up to meet the growing demand for its timepieces.

As for the brand’s distribution, the network has also expanded considerably over the last two years, with a presence at the best retailers in the main markets, namely: the United States; Europe, with the Italian market; the Middle East, with Dubai; Asia, with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and soon Singapore.

Finally, as a larger organisation with a bigger team and broader network, Krayon is also moving to larger premises – still in Neuchâtel, at 13, Rue de l’Evole. This change of address implies a change in the engraving of the movements. Previously, the exact address of the workshop, “Rue de l’Evole 5”, was engraved on the bridge. Timepieces created at the new premises will show “Evole” on the bridge – a distinctive marking that will certainly enable collectors to instantly identify pieces from the brand’s beginnings in the first workshop.

On the occasion of Geneva Watch Days, Krayon presented Anywhere, a timepiece that allows the exact time of sunrise or sunset to be known at a location chosen solely by the owner of the watch. Krayon adapts itself to the wearer’s desires and most intimate secrets. A reconnection with the primeval rhythms of nature.

The Anywhere model indicates the hours and minutes with dedicated hands, placed in the centre of a dial that appears to be suspended at the heart of the watch. It is surrounded by an annular zone upon which a small sun circulates in perpetual motion, indicating the time over 24 hours. The annular zone has two sectors: day (sky blue) and night (dark blue). The respective lengths of the sectors constantly change, indicating by their position the sunrise and sunset times that can be read from the fixed indicator ring.

The relative position of the two sapphire discs is determined not only by the reference position, but also by the calendar. To do this, Krayon Anywhere indicates the date and month with a hand-counter at 6 o’clock. It is a simple calendar, for which every month lasts 31 days. It requires only five quick, straightforward annual adjustments, which can be made directly with the crown and in both directions.

Anywhere is available in two interpretations: one in white gold, with blue the predominant colour; the other in 18K rose gold, with creamy white as the main tone. In both versions, the dial features the same motif and it is echoed on the face of the crown. What you see is an orb with parallels and meridians, imaginary longitudes and latitudes. The vanishing point is centred on the date at 6 o’clock. This symbolic pole is composed of two snailed areas.

The greatest care has been devoted to the day and night discs. The two rings are cut from sapphire. One is hand-painted in dark blue, the other in sky blue. On the former, Super-LumiNova stars stand out in the firmament. High above, the sun follows its course. Each one of its rays is unique, painstakingly finished in a subtle diamond-cutting process that is technically quite complex.

The calibre powering Anywhere was also meticulously developed and built by Rémi Maillat, watchmaker and founder of Krayon. It is a new manual-winding movement, endowed with an 86-hour power reserve.
