The Urwerk leading model takes a bow

The brand celebrated the tenth anniversary of its UR-110 model.

Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, faced evil on the wrist of Robert Downey Jr in the movie Iron Man, and even made the cover of the most important watchmaking magazines at its launch in 2011. It was time for it to accomplish one last mission before it vanished. Urwerk has therefore produced a final model in bakelite. This one-of-a-kind iteration was auctioned off last October and raised a cool CHF120,000 – of which the majority was donated to the Swiss Red Cross.

The UR-110 features has a titanium case and an original bezel made of bakelite, a stellar material during the 1900s. This insulating and heat-resistant material was present in all daily objects of the era, from eyeglass frames to radio sets.
