Kauri watch with exotic wood case

The combination of 316L stainless steel, a material widely used in fine watchmaking, a handmade case crafted from rare wood, and a Swiss made automatic movement is what sets the Kauri brand apart.

The vast majority of brands on the watch market using wooden cases do not offer automatic movements, and so far, none offer Swiss movements.
With Kauri, the aim is to offer unique, durable watches of exceptional quality that are more than 90% Swiss made.

Every step in watch design, from the initial sketches to prototyping and technical development, is carried out at the workshop in Plan-les-Ouates (Geneva). The rare wood cases, available in a choice of five species, are all made to measure with final assembly of the watch overseen by independent watchmaker and brand founder, Samuel Gillioz. The stainless-steel watch components are sourced from a specialist Swiss firm based in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Kauri watches have been designed to be authentic and durable, but above all, unique. The case and final assembly are made to order according to the customer’s taste, creating a timepiece to which no one else can lay claim. Watches can be further customised by choosing the number to be engraved on the back of the watch, as well as the colour of the indices and strap.

As the wood will evolve over time – a characteristic guaranteeing the unique character of every watch – special attention has been paid to the design of the casing to create a strong, durable watch. To limit any risk of breakage or cracking, the wood is reinforced at hidden points in the design.

Duo, the brand’s second model, features a precious wood case middle fitted with 316L ring and a self-winding movement. While more discreet than on the previous timepiece, wood nevertheless retains a place of its own and asserts its character, notably on the edge of the watch where one can clearly distinguish an original assembly of two types of wood that is fully revealed in the sunlight.

Given this particularity along with the timing of its arrival coinciding with the brand’s two-year anniversary (celebrated on June 20th 2021), the name “Duo” was a natural choice for this new creation. A second model, two types of wood and above all two years of adventure as an independent watchmaker.
