Oris is committed to the Great Barrier

Oris presents the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III, a diver’s watch created in partnership with the Reef Restoration Foundation.

The brand’s goal is to safeguard the world’s largest and most diverse reef, the Great Barrier Reef. Visible from space and measuring 2,600 km long, this reef is steadily deteriorating. The hot summers of 2016 and 2017 led to episodes of coral bleaching, leaving large areas devastated.

The Great Barrier Reef is about 8,000 years old and is home to 1,500 species of fish, more than 400 types of hard corals, a third of the world’s soft corals and six of the seven most threatened marine turtle species.

In order to safeguard this precious ecosystem, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, the watchmaker has joined forces with a non-profit organisation created in 2016, the Reef Restoration Foundation. The two institutions have launched a coral planting project off Fitzroy Island, near Cairns. This program is in its infancy, but Oris is proud to announce the planting of its first coral, an important step in its mission of change for the better.

In partnership with the foundation, Oris has created the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III, a diving instrument based on the legendary Oris Aquis.

This new 2,000-piece limited edition is graced with a gradated deep blue dial and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a blue ceramic insert recalling the colours of the reef waters. Water-resistant to 300 metres, its 43.5mm steel case houses a self-winding movement featuring a small seconds display and a circular date window.
