The Watch Photo Awards on show at Baselworld

After Geneva and Miami, the Watch Photo Awards (WPA) exhibition is open to Baselworld visitors.

The 60 visuals of the 2018 edition of the competition are presented to the public in Hall 1.0, amidst the booths of the major brands.

The 2019 edition was launched last month and the first theme chosen was White. For this month of March, participants are offered a double theme and only visitors to Baselworld can take part. The winner of each will receive a weekend for two at Les Trois Rois, a 5-star hotel located on the banks of the Rhine in Basel. One of Baselworld’s undeniable particularities is the spectacular creativity and diversity of the exhibitors’ often breathtaking booths. Introducing them to people who do not have the opportunity to visit the show motivated the decision to choose an a “Architecture” theme. In this category, the aim is to ensure the photos highlight the architecture of the booths themselves, as well as of the building itself seen from the outside, or else the interior layout of the exhibition. The second theme for March remains in line with the WPA approach: a photo of a mechanical watch – or quartz for ladies’ watches – featuring a distinctive Baselworld atmosphere or elements in the background, such as the watch brands’ booths, or the famous 30-metre light cone at the exhibition entrance designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

Contest participants have until March 31st to send their photos to watch-photo-awards.com. The WPA jury will then select the ten most successful in each category, based on aesthetic, technical and theme-specific criteria. The public will vote for the best visual for each theme and their authors will receive a voucher for a weekend for two at Les Trois Rois. Once again, the authors of all the selected photos will have their talent and passion recognised and shared with a wide audience, since their visuals will appear in many specialised publications around the world and will be the subject of a travelling exhibition in museums and other prestigious locations.
