The FHH partner of the Chronometry Competition

Heir to prestigious hours of fame in Swiss watchmaking history, the contemporary version of the Chronometry Competition was relaunched by the City of Le Locle and its Museum in 2009.

In the past and for more than a hundred years, these chronometric battles were to watchmaking what the circus games were to the Romans.

The FHH (Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie) has become a partner of the 2019 Chronometry Competition. It thus brings an additional touch of institutionality through its cultural commitment and guarantee of a high-end watchmaking industry. Already, both in the Organizing Committee and during the various controls to which watches will be subjected, four laboratories certified by the Swiss Confederation are endorsing the  event: METAS, the supreme confederal authority for metrology; COSC, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute; the Timelab  Foundation, a chronometric laboratory which is also the Authority in charge of the Geneva Hallmark; and finally, the Dubois Laboratory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which has been accredited by the Swiss government with operating Chronofiable, a testing program that is so well known in the sector that it has become a registered trademark.

While the registration deadline has been set for March 31st, the watches will in concrete terms have until the end of August to be discreetly deposited at the Château des Monts watch museum in Le Locle. Once they have successfully passed their first testing round, their names may then be announced.

By the beginning of March, an encouraging number of declarations of intent had reached the Organizing Committee or the President of the Competition, Philippe Fischer. In particular those of certain particularly well-known brands that have decided to participate. In addition, there is a range of independent companies that dream of being able to refer to this event and the prestige that it generates. It is the only watchmaking competition that owes nothing to human appreciation or any expression of subjectivity. The results are based on scientific measurements, controllable and controlled protocols, since the 80 days of tests will be conducted in the presence of a notarial authority.

On the social networking front, the Chronometry Contest has opted for a bilingual presence on Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. A succession of posts in French and English reveal some beautiful stories from previous editions, along with various models that remain the stuff of dreams for aficionados. Above all, these social media messages are intended for those who have not yet registered, who may still be hesitating and for brand executives who often need to be convinced by their technical teams. This is entirely natural, given that such participation is the responsibility of a team and also of a master in caliber adjustment capable of preparing a movement just as a super mechanic would do with a racing car.
