François Aubry launches a new brand

On October 25th, François Aubry officially launched the first timepieces in his 23.27° collection.

Stemming from 30 years of personal and professional experience in the watch industry, these models were developed in cooperation with sub-contractors in Switzerland’s famous Jura crescent.

Rightly perceived as a hub of horological excellence, Saint-Imier is the core of this project aimed at achieving a 100% Swiss made objective. Inspired by Switzerland’s unique place in the watchmaking universe, this creation gives pride of place to the globe by entitling its first collection 23.27°: the Earth’s rotation axis in relation to its orbital plane. This choice is also significant for the brand’s creator, François Aubry, for whom the numbers 23 and 27 hold strong personal meaning.

Crafting this exceptional timepiece implied resolving various aesthetic and technical issues so as to ensure that everything entirely matched the determination to incline everything at the exact same 23.27° angle as the Earth.

The 23.27° model thus represents a transposition of the chosen symbolic themes, distinguished by a unique contemporary design within which each element has been thought through right in the slightest detail, resulting in a wristwatch free of any cumbersome elements, like a pure jewel designed to defy time or perhaps even make it stand still.

Its sensually curved caseband represents our planet. The domed black dial surface is engraved with the meridians and parallels revealing the stylised outlines of Switzerland divided by the line of the Alps. The Jura watchmaking crescent stands out, with a red dot marking the location of Saint-Imier. The entire design complies with the 23.27° slant of the Earth’s rotation axis. The crown, depicting the moon with its craters, reflects the same aesthetic logic and is placed at a 23.27° angle in relation to the 3 – 9 o’clock axis.

Turning the watch over reveals the transparent caseback enabling one to admire the mechanical self-winding Soprod M100 movement. This inimitable watch is available in several versions: rough steel or black chrome-plated, polished or satin-brushed, gemset or non-set. To ensure the original creative principle is upheld in all respects, the 23.27° watch is delivered in a black anodised aluminium presentation box, also depicting the Earth. It has been designed as a decorative object in its own right.

Moreover, in accordance with its creator’s express wishes, its production is 99.99% Swiss, located inside a 48 km by 44 km rectangle with Saint-Imier in the centre. Why 99.99%? Exactly like a fine gold ingot, one cannot be entirely sure that a tiny particle not belonging to the metal is not present. For the 23.27° case, it might possibly happen that a tiny component does not meet the Swiss and regional production criteria that François Aubry has set for himself, and above all that some of the materials used cannot be found within Switzerland.
