Death of Valentin Piaget

It is with great sadness that the maison Piaget announces the passing of Valentin Piaget, grandson of the founder Georges-Edouard Piaget.

As part of the third generation, Valentin Piaget made a significant impact in the evolution of the maison alongside his brother Gérald, the CEO. His contribution extends beyond the company and into the technical field of movement and style. The ultra-thin caliber is a milestone in the history of watchmaking: the 2 mm thick hand-wound 9P movement, introduced in 1957, the world's flattest automatic winding movement in 1960 and not least the 2.3 mm thick 12P, we all owe to him.

Valentin Piaget was a visionary who made very early investments in electronic technologies at the Neuchâtel Electronic Horological Centre (CEH) and the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM); he went on to market luxury watches with quartz movements incorporating advanced techniques.

Under the influence of Valentin Piaget, the creations of the brand adopted a distinctive and audacious style where precious stones, ornamental stones and gold work all play an essential role. By launching collections of wristwatches and watch-sautoirs, the maison provided the watchmaking industry with a totally new interpretation of the status quo that pushed the boundaries of tradition. His vision continues to inspire the creations of the Maison to this day.
