Oris commits to the protection of sharks

Oris, which actively supports protection of the oceans, has unveiled its partnership with the explorer Jérôme Delafosse.

A professional diver, he has spent the last twenty years observing the populations of sharks and dolphins. As part of a project conducted with the Pelagios Kakunjá association, a non-profit entity, the firm will support the mission of the environmental charity which will be to study the movements and migratory routes of sharks.

The project researchers will fit satellite transmitters on five sharks in order to track their movements over a period of six to nine months. At a precise date, the implants will be automatically detached and float to the surface; they will then transmit the data gathered by them to the satellites. This information will help scientists to better understand these animals so as to be able to advise government agencies on fishing practices, one of the most serious threats to which these great ocean predators are exposed.
