Louis Erard celebrates 85 years of independence

On 27 September, Alain Spinedi invited the press to visit a highly original furniture boutique, Micky’s House, in Lausanne to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the brand’s foundation.

Inaugurated in 1929 at La Chaux-de-Fonds, the enterprise which did not begin to make timepieces until two years later is now established at Le Noirmont. The CEO of the company called attention to the independence of the brand from which it derives its strength and ability to respond quickly to demand over the decades. Always attentive to its customers wishes, Alain Spinedi offers fine timepieces at a reasonable price.

Relaunched in 2013 following a change of owner, Louis Erard supplies high quality timepieces. The firm, which has realistic ambitions, made some 15,000 watches in 2015. It hopes to sell 16,000 by the end of the year. Its main market is Switzerland, but it is actively working to win back what was once another prosperous market, Italy. A distribution problem caused sales in that country to collapse; the watchmaking firm had previously been selling as many as 5,000 timepieces a year in Italy. After signing a contract with a new Italian distributor, Alain Spinedi is very confident about future sales.

While the brand mainly targets a male clientele – 70% of its sales – it has also now developed a women’s range – Emotion – which enables the working of the movement to be admired and attracts women who take a keen interest in watchmaking technology. To celebrate this anniversary, the firm based in Le Noirmont has launched limited editions of several pieces, including a collection inspired by a 1931 model, the Heritage Date.
