Swiss made: the only true benchmark

Precision craftsmanship in Swiss watchmaking

Throughout the world, the reputation of Swiss made watches is unrivalled. Expertise, impeccable quality, perfect aesthetics, technical innovation: the Swiss made designation conveys all this and much more. Combined with renowned brands, these two words offer consumers seeking a high-value timepiece the assurance of an excellent choice.

Yet these two words must also be defended with determination. Firstly, because the Swiss made label is the only true benchmark in watchmaking, but also because customer satisfaction is at stake.

The Swiss made label is founded not only on considerable intrinsic value, but also on criteria laid down by law. At present, a federal ordinance sets out the conditions under which a watch or small clock may bear this renowned label.

Strengthening the label

The conditions governing its use have been significantly tightened to provide greater protection for the label's value. The Ordinance regulating the use of the name 'Swiss' for watches introduces a new definition of a Swiss watch, reflecting the wishes of the industry and meeting the requirements of the new Swissness legislation adopted in 2013.

Means of protection

The FH works every day to protect Swiss made and other geographical indications, such as the name Geneva. To this end, the designations Swiss made and Swiss have, in particular, been registered as certification marks in the United States and Hong Kong.

Finally, we administer registrations of the producer identification mark (SIP), a mandatory marking provided for by the ordinance on trademark protection.
