Following on from the Defy 21 Carl Cox released in 2020, the Le Locle-based company has drawn inspiration from one of the most essential tools of the legendary DJ and friend of the brand, in creating the brand-new Defy Extreme Carl Cox, produced in a 100-piece limited edition of 100. The openworked dial forms the mixing stage. Above the smoked sapphire crystal base, the three black chronograph counters are designed like miniature vinyl records whose concentric grooves reflect the light, as if they were spinning.
The minutes track is adorned with perfectly aligned dots recalling the stroboscopic effect of the DJ world. The power-reserve indication is given by an “on-off” hand positioned at 12 o’clock.
For the first time, the case of the Defy Extreme is made of yellow gold and blasted steel, giving it both a minimalist and retro-futuristic look. The El Primero 9004 calibre is revealed through the openworked dial and transparent caseback. This is the world’s fastest series-produced chronograph movement, the only one to use the high frequency of 50 Hz to display time to 1/100th of a second. In addition to the integrated beadblasted steel bracelet, this limited edition comes with a black rubber strap and a third black Velcro strap, which can be easily changed thanks to the quick-release mechanism built into the case.
The English electronic music pioneer has created a special playlist, entitled “Carl Cox X Zenith”, which includes “This is our Time”. It can be heard on Spotify and on the Zenith website. This timepiece is available exclusively to order from the brand’s boutiques and website.
