The first stop of the 2019 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) roadshow was in Sydney.

The exhibition there was organised in partnership with the retailer The Hour Glass, which welcomed the 84 timepieces to its King Street store on September 28th and 29th. The opening night, held at the Cruise Bar on September 27th in front of the city’s opera house, drew a number of local watch lovers and celebrities, including five-time Australian Olympic champion Ian Thorpe.

After Australia, the pre-selected watches travelled to Bangkok. Just as in Sydney, this stopover in Thailand was a first for the GPHG. The timepieces were presented from October 3rd to 5th in the PMT The Hour Glass boutique, located in the Siam Paragon shopping mall. A highlight of this exhibition was the inauguration cocktail, attended by aficionados and stakeholders in the local watchmaking community. Exclusive events were also organised, notably by the private bank LGT, the GPHG’s global partner, and by the Swiss Embassy, which offered its special contacts an opportunity to discover the nominated models.

The third stop on the journey was Mexico City, as part of the Salón Internacional Alta Relojería (SIAR), the largest watchmaking exhibition in Latin America, which was held at the St Régis hotel. Raymond Loretan, President of the GPHG, said he was pleased to be able to present the pre-selected timepieces in this context. Being present on every continent was important in order to fulfil the mission of promoting the art of watchmaking through the most beautiful contemporary creations. In this spirit, the SIAR was an essential platform.
The roadshow then went on to the Museo Internacional del Barroco (October 19th to 20th) in Puebla (Mexico) , and afterwards to Torres Joyas (October 22nd and 23rd). This exceptional tour concludes at the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva (November 1st to 14th). The winning watches will also be presented during the fourth Dubai Watch Week (November 20th to 24th).
