Countdown to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Loyal to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Omega celebrated the launch of the one-year countdown to Tokyo 2020.

As official timekeeper, the watchmaker was alongside the Japanese city’s Games Organising Committee. On this occasion, an official clock was unveiled on Marunouchi Square in the centre of the Japanese capital.

Measuring nearly four metres in height, this unique creation is inspired by the rising sun and the elements that make up the logo of the upcoming competition. On the one hand, it shows the countdown to the Olympic Games, which will begin on July 24th 2020, and on the other hand, it ticks off the seconds before the start of the Paralympic Games on August 25th 2020.

The day’s speakers included Alain Zobrist, President of Omega Timing, Christophe Savioz, President and Deputy Director of the Swatch Group in Japan, Yoshiro Mori, President of the Organising Committee, but also Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, and Yuji Fukasawa, President and CEO of the East Japan Railway Company, which made a significant contribution to the installation of this time structure.

In anticipation of next year’s major event, Omega has launched two watches in a 2,020-piece limited edition: the Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 and the Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020.
