Omega official timekeeper of the Youth Olympic Games

From October 6th to 18th, Omega immortalised the dreams of the best international young athletes during the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

To meet the requirements of the sports event, for which Omega was the official timekeeper, the Bienne-based Maison transported 80 tons of equipment, including 125 display boards, 22 graphic TV generators and 60 km of copper fibre optic cables. Two hundred and thirty-five timing specialists and technicians were present, with the support of 450 specially trained volunteers, to oversee the smooth running of the 241 sports events in 32 disciplines. The technologies used at the Olympic Games include Scan’O’Vision Myria photo-finish cameras which can take up to 10,000 digital images per second on the finish line, as well as starting blocks equipped with integrated sensors able to detect the slightest false start in athletics.

Omega was official timer for each of the four preceding editions of the Youth Olympic Games, starting with Singapore in 2010. Buenos Aires 2018 is only the third summer edition of this event.
