Blancpain partner of the 2018 Bocuse d’Or Switzerland

Franck Giovannini and Mario Garcia

A keen connoisseur of haute cuisine, Blancpain served as official timekeeper for the 2018 Bocuse d’Or Switzerland.

This year’s edition, which took place at Palexpo on January 22nd, was a particularly emotional moment, coming just after the death of multi-Michelin-starred chef Paul Bocuse, initiator of the competition and a loyal friend of the watch brand.

The Manufacture thus ably accompanied the four Swiss candidates vying with each other to create two fish and meat dishes. Alongside Franck Giovanni, President of the competition and of the jury; Anton Mosimann, Honorary Jury Member; as well as 18 other chefs, Joël Robuchon – the world’s most starred chef and a longstanding friend of Blancpain – had the weighty responsibility of choosing the winner.

After much deliberation, the young Mario Garcia, founder of the “cre/ate” culinary school in Horw (Luzern) was named the winner. He will represent Switzerland in the European round of the competition, slated for May 2018 in Turin. Alain Delaumuraz, Vice-President and Marketing Director Blancpain, notably handed him a Bathyscaphe timepiece from the iconic Fifty Fathoms collection, specially engraved to mark the occasion.
