Mimotec joins the Acrotec group

After acquiring the Gasser-Ravussin and H2i houses in the spring, the independent Swiss Acrotec group, whose main purpose is to supply high quality Swiss made products to all the watch manufacturers and brands, acquired the Mimotec business which is based in Sion.

Since its creation in 1998, this firm in the Canton of Valais headed by Hubert Lorenz, has been acknowledged both in Switzerland and abroad as a leader in the fields of microtechnology and micromechanical engineering. It mainly makes micro-components using the «LIGA» (Lithography, Galvanoplasty, Electroforming) process. This technique has the advantage of being inexpensive and capable of rapid implementation, making the process highly competitive compared to traditional methods (electro-erosion, stamping, laser). It also holds out attractive prospects for miniaturisation of components in the fields of micro-connectivity, measuring instruments and authentication systems.

Today, more than three million parts leave the Sion factory each year and Mimotec has become a key partner of the Swiss watch industry.

Mimotec currently employs 45 persons and also hosts on its premises the Sigatec SA company, which it founded in 2006, jointly with Ulysse Nardin. The company has won many prizes, including the Swiss Economic Award in 2001 and the SVC prize in 2014. Its founder, Hubert Lorenz, was also awarded the gold medal of the Swiss Chronometry Society in 2013 for the contribution made by this new production technology to the watch industry.
