ActiGir

The bearing of the oscillating mass is an essential element of the automatic winding system.

Its excellent efficiency guarantees an optimal loading of the barrel spring. In certain conditions, the rotational speed of the mass happens to be very high, generating a level of noise which can be felt as excessive.

Given the obvious correlation between speed and noise level, mps has orientated its research to resolve the following question: how to reduce the rotational speed without impairing the windingup power? The focus in development has been put on the characteristics of the cage, whose principal role is to separate the balls and to add to it an active deceleration function. A theoretical study by finite elements as well as numerous practical tests were necessary to define the best material and the optimal geometry for all types of watch movements. The specific cage design constitutes the basis of the ActiGir principle. It allows a totally free rotation of the bearing in one direction and a controlled friction in the other one.
